The old cemetery has been dead since 1883! With the end of the burial, its area was gradually planed with smaller tombstones of the local glass craftsmen. However, an impressive backdrop of gravestones, tombs and chapels of wealthy glass merchants and refiners remained along the wall. The absence of survivors after 1945 and lack of interest caused the Old Cemetery to gradually fall into disrepair, with tombstones collapsing and statues disintegrating. In 2004, the SONOW association was founded in Kamenické Šenov, which wants to help with the cultivation of public space and to save what is possible. We started by carving the raids, cutting the grass, painting the sheet metal, but soon we started raising money to secure and restore those gravestones that "had it bent". Since then, a tombstone has been restored almost every year. Since 2012, we have been cooperating with the restorer Eva Míčková. She also involved her restoration students from AVU in the restoration. In 2016, the renewal gained momentum thanks to an offer for cooperation from the Association of Friends of Kamenický Šenov from partner Rheinbach (DE). The Liberec Region helps us with financing, and thanks to our friends from Germany, the Czech-German Future Fund as well. The association has a number of other activities related to the Old Cemetery. From Rheinbach came a proposal to announce an art competition of the glass schools in Rheinbach and K. Šenov for an information system that would provide visitors with information from the monograph of the cemetery by Harry Palme. Together with the help of the collection, we provided the old cemetery with oak benches from a local manufacturer, with the central, circular one encircling a linden tree - how symbolic! Since the church's 300th birthday in 2018, a St. Wenceslas dedication has been held at the church. On that occasion, the Old Cemetery is equipped with beach chairs ("interactive Land Art"). Since 2005, the Old Cemetery has been open and illuminated on All Souls' Day, and its numerous visitors can benefit from our free entertainment - and then voluntarily support us by "tinking into our coffers". This year we have been nominated for the Monuments Thank You award, and this publicity brings increased interest in visiting the cemetery. After twenty years of work, the number of restored tombstones is over half, but the impression of the Old Cemetery is already comforting. Nothing crashes, nothing apparently falls apart. You can "make a circle" an

The old cemetery is adjacent to the church from the north side. It is surrounded by a wall of quarry stone, covered with sandstone slabs. The restoration of tombstones next to the wall is always accompanied by the repair of the wall itself behind them, on both sides, in complete sections. The downpipes from the church roof were led into 4 downpipes in the area of the cemetery. A plan has been drawn up for the church facade since 2016 and it has all the permits for its restoration. Such a large event is unthinkable without synergy with the parish and the City.
